BILLBOARDS
MIAMI INTERNATIONAL COMMERCE CENTER
Miami, Florida
When I was the digital media specialist for a mid-size commercial real estate company, our South Florida field office requested copy and graphic layout ideas for an electronic billboard on one of our properties. I came up with more than a dozen lines and these three were chosen. For the record, one pitch consciously included a typographical error which was later edited out and, I think, lessened the impact. Properly, it should have been, “Would you like your warehouse to be thisclose to the airport?” So much for the fine art of outdoor copywriting. Curse you, Spellcheck!

“Hip Check: Moon Goose Generates Error-Free “Source Code”
At its best, music is a shortcut to accessing and defining emotions – the fast-track to all the shadings, in-betweens, variations, and just plain indescribable uncertainties that words can’t touch. Via the right music, even the most subtle emotion can be given voice. Just think of the classic scene from “Say Anything” where Cusack’s character can only reveal his truest feelings by way of a song on a boombox over his head.
This is all the more true with instrumental music. My delight with instrumental rock began in a typical SoCal way: The Ventures, Booker T and the MG’s and Dick Dale. These world-class innovators not only lit me up, but they also inspired my search for similar performers like Link Wray, Duane Eddy and Ennio Morricone. Taken together, theirs was a language that, when the wind blew right, spoke to my soul.
It’s by way of this rambling prologue that we come to how I discovered the music of Moon Goose. While perusing an Apple “new music” playlist, a song called Le Comte (video below) hit me like a shot of Jack on an empty stomach: instantly intoxicating. My consciousness was fully hijacked. Sly and slithering, then growing… growing… into a hella-groovy, psychedelic power-romp crescendo. Wow. With no vocals. Double wow. Who WAS this band?!? Pulsing, snaking, so purely emotional and tap-dancing in all my happy places. This band simply didn’t need vocals. It was music for its own sake. My kind of music… (more)

“Vinyl Williams’ Grand Musical Tradition”
For descendants of musical aristocracy, expectations can get weird. Lionel Williams, frontman of the band Vinyl Williams, is the grandson of movie music maestro John Williams, as well as the son of session player/Air Supply member Mark Williams. His uncle Joseph Williams is a member of Toto, a band known for it’s players’ capabilities. In this instance, family standards might seem a tad high. Kids and grandkids taking on their own musical careers face a “sink or swim” scenario of truly daunting terms. Musical survival – let alone success – appears heavily and unfavorably tilted. Vinyl Williams’ grand musical tradition, though, more than effectively continues what is an astonishing streak of family talent and creativity.
Williams’ band released its first EP, NAKED SANCTUARY, in 2010. England’s Guardian newspaper declared them “New Band Of The Day” in 2012 upon the release of their first album, LEMNISCATE. The sound of their five studio LPs is alternately groovy, psychedelic, haunting, mellow and yet driving and danceable. If “reverby” isn’t a word yet, Williams’ music makes the case for its necessity. Hearing a new, unknown song is like a breath of fresh air, a window opened on a spring day. It can rejuvenate and inspire; it can remind you that you’re still alive. New music does, however, require an open mind and tolerance of risk. I have come to realize that these two useful traits, with age, can dwindle. Why? Those traits led to great music when we were kids, teens and 20-somethings. Now, sadly, among my peers and with great frequency, I hear, “There’s no good new music anymore.” This isn’t true. And I’m here to show you where it is.
HipTherapyMusic.com has two goals: 1) deliver a carefully curated cross-section of music that could – and should – be on rock radio if that option still existed (stations like KMET, KFOG, WBCN, KGB-FM and the like, in their hey-day); and 2) demystify the jungle of technology where new music now resides.
HipTherapyMusic.com is a safe place to close your eyes, open your mind and trust your ears. This site will expose new and under-appreciated music regularly, just like rock radio before short-sighted business calculators took over. This won’t be scary. Occasionally, it will be like meeting a long-lost friend. Come along for the ride! (more)

“Frequently Asked Questions” Sample
Q: When and how was PS Business Parks formed?
PS Business Parks was organized in 1986 as a division of Public Storage, the mini-warehouse company, which, in the process of growing its business, occasionally encountered “unique” situations. According to Wayne Hughes, the founder of Public Storage, “We had some great pieces of property, but there were some zoning and planning commissions that wouldn’t let us build self-storage facilities on these prime pieces of real estate without some kind of buffer. So in the early 1980’s we put up other types of businesses on these properties, in front of our mini-warehouse structures.” These developments included retail properties, industrial parks and garden office complexes. The development and management of these new properties proved so successful for Public Storage that the PS Business Parks division was eventually spun off as a separate public company in early 1998.
Q: How has PS Business Parks grown since its inception?
PS Business Parks started in 1998 with approximately 5 million square feet of leasable space. It now has more than 28 million square feet with plans to grow.
Q: What are PS Business Parks’ specialties?
PS Business Parks focuses on office, warehouse and office/warehouse space – a combination of space types that can accommodate a wide variety of businesses. The majority of our spaces are between 1,000 and 5,000 square feet, making PS Business Parks the perfect home for “small-business America,” mom-and-pops, start-ups and any business looking for the ability to expand and grow. We also have spaces in excess of 20,000 square feet that are home to some of the biggest brands in the country as well as portions of the United States Government.
